JPG and PNG solve different problems. JPG compresses photographs well but stores no transparency and re-compresses every time you edit and save. PNG is lossless: every pixel keeps its exact value, text and sharp edges stay crisp, and transparency is preserved. Converting a JPG to PNG makes sense when you want to cut something out of the image later, when you need a lossless master for further editing, or when a shop, printer or upload form asks for PNG. Choose your file, optionally limit the longest side to 1920, 1280 or 800 pixels, and download the result. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the canvas API — the photo is never uploaded, so even personal pictures stay on your device. Note that a PNG is usually larger than the original JPG, because lossless storage keeps more data; that is expected and not an error.
